Lloyd Altman

Obituary of Lloyd R. Altman

Lloyd R. “Butch” Altman, 77, of East Huntingdon Twp., Mt Pleasant, died Monday November 3 at home from complications of coal miners' black lung.  Mr. Altman was born April 11, 1948 to the late Lloyd E. and Caroline McCoy Altman.

Butch was a retired coal miner, working in both deep mines and strip mining.  He drove truck and operated heavy equipment during his career and loved telling stories of “dump trucks and bulldozers” while drinking an Old Milwaukee.  He was active in the Southmoreland Junior Wrestling Association while his son Hunter wrestled and assisted coaching in the Scottdale Girls Softball league where his daughter Heather played.  He was a Baptist and had a calling as a youth leader at Ruffsdale Baptist Church until it closed.

Butch and his wife of 58 years, Lily (Jackie) Altman, were blessed by God with twins Heather of Derry and Hunter of Mt Pleasant.  Next to being the twins' dad, Butch's greatest joy was being Pappy to his beloved Grandchildren – Tyler Hoak of Mt. Pleasant, Blake, Amiah and Aliah Altman of Derry, Gavin Altman of LaPine, OR, and Zander Pearsol of Jeannette. He enjoyed taking them camping, fishing and hunting and instilling his love for the outdoors into the whole family.  “Uncle Butch” cherished the time spent with his nephews Jeff, Rich, Albert and Billy when they were young and he loved their children and his many other nieces and nephews very much.  Great nieces Nicole and Megan also have many special childhood memories with him.  In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his sisters, Hester Micklow and Kay Lindgren; and nephew Jeff Schreckengost.

Family and friends will be received on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Galone-Caruso Funeral Home Inc., Mt. Pleasant, where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Steve Bane, officiating.  Interment will follow in The Altman Family Plot, East Huntingdon Twp.  Butch continues his love for children by asking that in lieu of flowers, consider donations to St Jude's Children's  Research Hospital, his favorite charity, at stjude.org/donate.  To offer an online condolence, please visit our website at www.galone-carusofuneralhome.com
