Obituary of Sandra J. Shaffer

Sandra Joyce Shaffer, 82, of Donegal, died Monday June 30, 2025 in Pineville, NC.  She was born August 18, 1942 in Mt. Pleasant to the late Alexander J. and Gladys Reese Balcerek.

Sandy graduated from Ramsey High School in 1960.  She then went to work as a secretary at Scott Electric in Greensburg.  After getting married in 1962 and having children, she focused on raising her family.  Sandy’s life was centered on her children and later her granddaughters.  She found the greatest joy in spending time with her family and creating lasting memories.  She was fun-loving with a great sense of humor and especially enjoyed silly things and a good laugh.  After her kids were grown, she returned to work in administrative roles in the Mount Pleasant School District and finally in the physical therapy department at Excela Health in Mount Pleasant.  She also returned to the Catholic church and was a member of St. Raymond of the Mountains in Donegal.

She is survived by her son Lawrence “Skid” Shaffer, Jr. (Cindy), her granddaughters Katie Carlisle (Wesley) and Natalie Zeitouni (Daniel), her sister Sylvia Elsbury (Donald), her brother John Balcerek (Marlene), and nieces and a nephew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence “Skid” Shaffer, Sr. and her son Todd Shaffer.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Galone-Caruso Funeral Home Inc., Mt. Pleasant.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Raymond of the Mountains R.C. Church, 170 School House Lane, Donegal, PA 15628 (Everyone please meet at church).  Interment will follow in Mt. Joy Cemetery, Mt.
