Earl Landy

Obituary of Earl E. Landy

Earl E. Landy, age 89 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Amber House at Harmon House, Mount Pleasant. Mr. Landy was born February 21, 1928 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late Michael and Mary Gillott Landy. He was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. Earl was a 1945 graduate of the former Hurst High School. He proudly served in the United States Army as a TEC 4 auto mechanic stationed in Japan during WW II, receiving the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. Earl worked for Eidemiller Construction Co and then for the former Robertshaw Control Company for 37 years. In 1968, Earl became part of the Entertainment World. He was the owner/ operator of Amusement World. Earl always had a love for the amusement business and for making people smile. He could always be found running his water race game at carnivals and festivals. Earl also donated much of his time to the Glass and Ethnic Festival. Earl enjoyed fixing things and tinkering in his garage and cutting grass. His down time was spent watching old westerns, Godfather movies, or reruns of the Andy Griffith show. Earl was a devout Catholic, a man who loved talking to people and making them smile, a "social butterfly" who loved spending time with his family and his friends, telling stories and engaging them in conversation. His greatest joy came from his grandchildren, and he lit up when seeing his great grandchildren, especially when they would win the biggest prize at the water games (sometimes without even playing). Earl is survived by his loving family: his wife of 67 years, Elsie Benedict Landy, his son, Jeffrey A. Landy of Mt. Pleasant, his beloved grandchildren: Corey A. Landy and his wife Veronica, Danielle Elaine Landy, and Kelsey Landy and her fiancé Nick Beckas, and his great grandchildren; Isabella, Alexander, and Joseph Landy. He is also survived by his daughter in law, Martha Elaine Landy of Mars, his sister, Anna "Ange" Dusenbery and her husband Kendal of Mt. Pleasant, and by his sisters and brothers in law; Ann Landy, Lois Landy and Warren L. Leeder, Andy and Elizabeth Benedict. In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Edward Landy in 2009, and by his sisters and brothers; LaVerne Landy in 1990, Geraldine Leeder in 2007, John Landy in 2011, and Vincent Landy in 2012. Also his sister in law Betty Benedict. Family and friends will be received Saturday from 6 to 8 PM and Sunday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A blessing service will be held Monday at 9:30AM in the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Pius X RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with Monsignor Michael W. Matusak as celebrant. Interment with full military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 446 will be in the St. Pius X Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
