Obituary of John M. DePalma, Jr.

John M. DePalma, Jr., age 86 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died peacefully Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at his home, comforted by his loving family. Mr. DePalma was born July 19, 1930 in Old Bethany, PA, the son of the late John M. and Angeline Rosso DePalma. He was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. John was a 1948 graduate of the former Ramsay High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War aboard the USS Tripoli and became a 1st class pipefitter. John was a co-owner of DePalma Plumbing and Heating Co. retiring at the age of 62. He was a life member of the Assunta Club, the Hecla Sportsman's Club, and the Bridgeport Sportsman's Club. John had a strong passion for woodcarving. His specialties were Santa's, birds, and Noah's Arks, which became cherished gifts to his children, friends and relatives. He also loved gardening, fishing, and cooking. John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years; Evelyn Mondock DePalma, his children: John Marco (Mark) DePalma, III and his wife Chris, Marcia Leighliter and her husband Allen, Lisa Giedeman and her husband Jim, and Tom DePalma, and his wife Margie, by his loving grandchildren: Tara Delanoy (Chuck), Brad Leighliter. Scott Leighliter, John M. DePalma, IV (Heather), Justin DePalma, and Jessica DePalma (Travis), and by his great grandchildren, Landon John DePalma and Evelyn Mae Etling. John is also survived by his brothers and sisters; Patsy DePalma, Dan DePalma, Carolyn Grega, and Antoinette Baker, and by his brothers and sisters in law and numerous nieces and nephews. Respecting John's wishes, there will be no hours of public visitation. Private services will be held at St. Pius X Church Cemetery. John's family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice Care for their excellent service and compassion, and would like to thank God for giving him 86 years which we were all blessed to share with him.
